Title: Five vaseline thin glasses with barleytwist stems , engraved crest....Webb ?
Post by: Baked_Beans on January 16, 2010, 01:40:17 PM
I bought five of these on ebay recently. Looks like a small wine glass , the height is 14.5cm and diameter at top of bowl is 6.5 cm. Has an attached bowl and foot to a barley twist stem. Glass glows bright green under UV light and has a polished pontil lens under the foot. The engraving of the crest with a lion sat inside a crown is really superb. The seller didn't know the family the crest belongs to. Does anyone know who may have made these ? Cheers, Mike.

The crown is the crown of a Marquess.  The lion is, in heraldic terms, a 'Lion Sejant', meaning sitting.  No idea whose crest it is though.

Thanks Leni for the info.. I guess they must have come from a stately home then ! The glasses are so finely made and not a single flaw to be seen and a great feel to the twisted stem . Thanks for your help , Mike.
