Title: Glass Jug with silver lid and silver handle
Post by: Otis Orlando on January 21, 2010, 07:58:51 PM
This jug was purchased from a  Charity Shop.  I have never purchased anything like this before, however, found it to be interesting.  The height of the jug without the lid measuring from the pouring end is 23.2cm.  The top measuring 9.2cm dia.  The base 10cm dia.  The silver around the neck of the vase has patterns all around. The handle itself has been designed of the shape of a swan.  The tip of the handle is the beak which measures 4cm in length. There are two indented holes that form the eyes of the swan. Within the neck of the jug there is  an etched print that reads - Corning Brand - Heat Proof Glass.  Can anyone identify this glass and advise if this piece is part of the glass section?

There are no marks on the metal parts of the jug other than a pattern and shape of the handle formed into the shape of a swan.  Is the Jug old or new? as I have never seen one like this before.  So any info. would be grateful.  I will keep awake over a nice cup of coffee until there is a positive reply. ::)

Originators of Pyrex and other heat-resistant borosilicate glass brands. The Pyrex found in the UK was originally made under licence by Jobling

And some Pyrex sold in the US made under license by Moncrieff - the other originators of boro-silicate heat resistant glass. (Not forgetting Schott of course).

Hi Johnphillip,  I just had a look at the site and I must say it is a beauty.  I am surprised that only one person bid for it though.  I mist out there. It is quite a modern piece, I think looking at the screws to the handle.  I could be wrong.  I wonder what mine would be valued at?   Thanks for your info.
