Title: Decanter?
Post by: Otis Orlando on January 28, 2010, 09:48:22 PM
A unusual piece.  Looks foreign, but have no idea as to what to call it or identify it's origin.  This piece measures 56cm in height with stopper, without stopper 39.2cm.  There is a large concaved pontil with a rough texture. Due to the pontil, a rim measuring 7cm in width is formed around the base.  There are lines on either side of the decanter that run from top to bottom.  This suggest the piece is moulded.  I no absolutely nothing more about this piece.  Can anyone identify please, as to it's age and origin?

Definitely Italian. I think it's from the Empoli region, but someone who knows better will need to confirm r deny.

Been a while since I had one - but are they called genie bottles?

You might be able to find some similar ones by putting "Rossini decanter Empoli" into your internet search engine. Rossini made many decanters of this general form.
