Title: Orange bowl with lid - long clear stem and base
Post by: Otis Orlando on January 31, 2010, 06:31:08 PM
A really unusual looking piece.  I am not sure what to describe it as.  The piece measures 35cm in height with lid.  When the lid is removed the height is reduced to 25cm in height.  The dia. of the base is 12cm.  The base has a convex pontil which may not be clear on the pics.  The lid is clear cased around the orange mould.  The wides part of the piece is 15cm wide and then curves upwards to meet the top of the lid.  This could be a modern piece.  Taking into consideration the overall height and width.  This piece is very light in weight and fragile too.  Can anyone assist me in identification please?

Hi! Dirk,  Yes it certainly looks like Empoli as I have looked at your suggested site.  I hope it is as it is a lovely piece and is one of the common art deco colours.  I will look into this further and any info. I am willing to share.  Many thanks for your prompt assistance.

I agree with Dirk and it will be 1960s/1970s when these things were fashionable. It also won't have a pontil mark, as the stem was attached to the top not the other way round. Unusual colour for these though

Unlikely, pairs of ornaments were more a Victorian fashion

Hi! Max, I wonder if you could display a picture of the one that is in your shed?
