Title: Clear vase with Short stem

This is a unusual looking vase.  Measuring 19.5cm in height. top dia. 6.3cm dia. and the base 8.5cm dia.  The rings all around the vase looks like a magnifying glass when you look through one of them and the outer ones on the opposite side become smaller. on the top of the stand there are 3 equally spaced lines/joins that run from the outer line of the dia. of the stand to the stem itself.   Once the line reaches the stem they then go upwards along the stem on a angle until the lines meet the underneath base of the vase.  It is quite an impressive piece and very unusual indeed.  Can anyone identify this piece.  Many thanks!

This is a late Victorian(about 1880s) pressed glass vase. The vase is made from a three-part mould. Most of these were made in Northern England.

I actually have two similar one. It  is heavy.

Almost identical ones made in France/ Germany around 1880 are beer glasses.

Hi Ming, could you send of pictures of the ones that are similar to min.  This is the only one I have ever seen and did not realize that it is as old as that.  This particular one has a lot of hair line marks on it, especially around the base.  Is this common?

Saint Louis when under German occupation, but others too.

Here are the pic you want to see. Actually, one is pressed glass and other one is blown and cut. Also Ivo was right these are  Ale glasses and not vases.

Also be careful not to buy all the pressed glasses you came across. There are load and load in all charity shops and most are not worth getting. Be selective.

Thanks very much Ming and to you Ivo for your help.  I have looked at the sites you have suggested and I now see what you mean.  I would not of known there were ones that were pressed too.  I can feel rest assured, as mine in comparison to your picture is definately blown.  Once again, many thanks for your prompt assistants on this 'ALE GLASS'. :cheers:

It's not, it's pressed, as Ming said; I can see the mould seams on the foot,

Stand corrected Christine.  It definately is pressed.  Thanks for picking up on that. :thup:
