from memory both of these were from the same boot sale last year, and despite my expectations, much to my disappointment neither glows under the torch. the tankard is 49mm tall, and the shoe is about 59mm long, and there is a complete absence of marks. Does anyone have any suggestions of possible age and country of origin -believe I remembered a discussion re miniature pieces long time back, but can't recall when. Perhaps they wud do for someone's dolls house! any ideas, and thanks for looking. Paul S.

You might find the shoe in Libby Yalom's book.

Handled shot glass is part of a set: small decanter in a frame with 6 small glasses around it. Origin Germany or Bohemia.

Frank - thanks for the suggestion of the book. All I have to do now is find one (Abe Books?) - is it expensive to buy??
Chris - thanks.
Ivo - you're not serious - are you - that this glass wud have had a practical use as a 'shot glass' - it looks far too small :) Or do you mean it was for purely decorative purposes. Must admit I was expecting you to say the Continent - Am I right in thinking pre 1939.
My thanks to all of you. Cheers Paul S.

Ivo's not joking. Spirit sets often had tiny glasses. In fact mine are smaller than yours :P

there's no answer to that ;) Seriously tho, my little glass is very narrow, so guess you'd get barely a thimble full - the sort of quantity that you can drink between meals - to parody the advert. Do like your set with the decanter tho, very attractive. My green pieces are almost the only miniatures I have seen, so guess they are fairly uncommon things, and at least they have a very small footprint - you cud almost collect thousands of them ;D thanks for the reply. I stopped joking long time ago - it confused people.
Strong spirits come in small decanters with tiny glasses - a thimble is all it takes when the stuff is 60 or 70% proof.
