I love this vase - I've looked for such a long time for a piece of pink cased glass with no frills ;D and finally found this. It looks fab with my orange and lime green pieces.
Any views on country of origin appreciated - 10" tall nicely made.
The base of the bulbous part of the vase appears to be cased in a yellowyish glass (or perhaps the whole thing is but it's more evident at the base as there is a viewable section of 'clear' casing ) which makes it look as though it grades from dark pink to paler pink as it goes up the vase. Foot is quite wide at nearly 3" and nicely made, joined to the stem I think. Then the stem is attached to the vase rather than being blown as part of if you see what I mean. Very neatly done, with a perfect ring of glass round the join of the stem and the vase. It is cased inside white and has a fire polished rim.
Many thanks

It's probably Italian, probably from Empoli but not opalino, just cased pink (three layers clear, pink, white). Opalino is more translucent, sort of like slightly watered milk or strawberry milkshake in the case of pink. I also think it's not generally cased.

In Italian, the word Opalino is used for clear cased colour glass like this one - but also for the classical Opaline which is a solid colour. It's a bit of a false friend as they are two rather different types of glass.

thanks Christine.
My title was very badly worded! I meant 'I really want this to be Italian' ;D
So just pink cased would have done - I am still confused about the different versions of the 'opal...' s apart from opalescent.

ah thanks Ivo. Perhaps I will just stick to 'cased glass' unless I am more certain :)
