Title: Big, very heavy Egermann centre piece bowl - approximate age?
Post by: peejyweejy on March 12, 2010, 04:53:34 PM
Hi all...I wonder if anyone could tell me the approximate age of this bowl? Also, I wonder if it has a pattern name. It has a gold sticker saying "Egermann - Czech Republic" and is etched "Egermann" on the base....Thanks!

Due to the words czech republic its not very old, currently i cant for the life of remember when they started using this i think it was early 1990's give or take, (although its highly possible im wrong  ;D) i do have it wrote down somewhere the approx dates, so will have a search and let you know, although im sure someone else will pick it up before i remember

Your bowl has been fabricated in period 1998 - 2009.  The free hand glass is not more produced in Egermann s.r.o. even factory after few months of break produces the red stained "Egermann style" thin walled glass again.

Hi Jindrich, thanks for reply. Sorry to be a nuisance but I need to clarify this; in English, the word "fabricate" has a few meanings and one of them is to fake or forge. Are you saying that this is a fake?

Hi Peejy,
im absolutely sure Jindrich means produced or made , not fake, his English is much better than our Czech  ;D

Hi Andy, I have no doubt that Jindrich's English is much better than our Czech which, in my case, is non existant. I was pretty sure he meant - made/ manufactured - but I just wanted to be sure. I thought long and hard about my reply, before posting, as I didn't want to seem derogatory in any way. I hope I haven't offended anyone.  :-[

Sorry about my Czenglish, it has been manufactured there :-)

Well, this type of glass had been invented in beginning of 50ties in glassmaker's school glasswork in Chribska (part of Borske sklo, later Crystalex)by Josef Hospodka and later produced for many years in many modifications "designed" by several designers. After privatisation of Crystalex in 1991-2 continued production of free hand shaped glass in Egermann s.r.o in Novy Bor and Rubin glass s.r.o. (s.r.o. = Ltd) in Chribska.

I attached the photograph of school glasswork in Chribska with participant of 1st school year in 1947.

Yes, I have mentioned her. I am very keen to know who she was. I hope I will find some detail about her, Mr. Juda studied this school on the end of 40ties, he should remmember one girl in group.
