Title: Vasart?
Post by: Lustrousstone on March 14, 2010, 10:15:03 PM
My first millefiori PW. A mere 1.5 inches across. Fire polished and roughly ground base. Vasart?

Congratulations on your first millefiori paperweight, Christine!  I really like it, including how petite it is.  Couldn't say much more than Scottish, not Perthshire.  Early Strathearn or Vasart would be my first thought too.  I look forward to what others say.

My best .... Lily :)

Thanks Lily. Actually I forgot the two 1930s Chinese ones.  :-[ But it is the first good one. I try not to collect paperweights unless they are cheap (enough) and in my hand (unless they are Jonathan Harris or Mdina) and I hadn't found one so far that met these criteria.

Hi Chrstine,

Yes, Vasart Ltd or early Strathearn. Although many are known as standalone weights, these smaller ones (1.25 or 1.5 inch diameter) were often used for Bar Set and other novelty items. F003, F004, F009 and F011 (http://www.ysartglass.com/Vascat/VasF001.htm) in Frank's Ysartglass page on those items shows a few that are the same pattern as yours. Two- or three-row concentrics seems to have been the norm.

Thanks Kev. I forgot to look on Frank's pages. Mine doesn't look as though it's ever been attached to anything. No glue traces.

Not all of the mini weights were stuck on to things.

You said earlier, thank you. I was just saying that mine didn't look like it had fallen off anything  :kissy:
