Title: Anyone heard of a mid size "marigold over custard" carnival vase by Northwood?
Post by: MichaelMToronto on March 19, 2010, 09:54:44 PM
My mother and I are searching for information about a vase she recently purchased. It's unusual in colour. At first she thopught it was peach opalescent. But we found it in Bill Edwards and Mike Carwile's book CARNIVAL GLASS THE BEST OF THE BEST. It's the top pictured vase on page 193. It is also pictured on the net at http://www.carnivalheaven.com/carnivalglass102/id168.htm

It is apparently a mid size tree trunk (13 inches tall, 4 3/4  base) Northwood vase (although not signed) in "marigold over custard" - a colour of which we have never heard.

Is this vase rare? Valuable? I think it's rather unusual looking because of the colour. Any information would be helpful.

Michael

David Doty shows two examples of a Northwood mid-size tree trunk in marigold over custard being sold.  One in 2001 for $10,000 and one in 2002 for $12,000.  I would suspect today;s market would be no higher or less than those - but not much.  I'd love to see pictures of yours.

I saw that on dody's site but couldn't believe it.

What are the very best carnival auctions/events at which to sell fine and rare pieces such as this?

Doty links to several collectors' groups and auctioneers specializing in carnival glass.
