Has anyone any idea who made this gorgeous piece? It looks very good quality, I thought Okra at first, before I saw the signature, but of course that would be RG not RH, yes?
-
RHAG is Robert Held Art Glass. They are in western Canada and do a lot of iridescent pieces. Your weight looks like work that was done by them.
-
Anita you are a star as ever, thank you so much. I am really lost when it comes to North American makers.
I don't suppose you have ever heard of Oasis Glass have you? This RHAG piece came from a small group, Joe Rice was another (at least he's easy) and Oasis Glass the third. As the other two have turned out to be North American, I am wondering if the 3rd was too?

Hi Lynne
I did a quick search or Robert Held on ebay US - nice!

No luck on the Oasis one though, sorry.

Thanks Suzy, lots of the moulded ones, but not many as nice as this I think.
I can't find anything on Oasis.. assuming it DOES say Oasis of course... it might say Davis looking at it again, but Davis is usually stamped like the Rice I think?
sigh. I am no good with signatures :pb:
-
I believe it is Oasis. I have seen the name before, but I don't know anything about them. I also did a Google search, but came up empty headed. :D
-
LOL I know that empty headed feeling... :D
-
My first thought was Davis Glass which would fit with the WV (West Virginia). That's where Davis Glass is (or was).
Just a thought from this 'empty head' ..... Lily :pb:
-
But then the Oasis glass I once heard about could have been an interpretation of the signature Davis glass. I wouldn't be surprised.
-
hmmm thanks Lily for that thought.... the more I think about it the more it seems likely it IS Davis... I have only seen them with the St Clair type stamped bases, did they sign with a diamond point as well?
-
Here's an example of Steve Davis' signature on a marble. I hope this helps.

Do you have an example of their hot stamp you could post?
Lily :)

that's almost exactly the way the "Oasis" Davis is written on my weight, I reckon that's incontravertable now.
The Davis I was thinking of was Jim Davis.. haven't got a pic myself but this eBay completed piece shows the sig in one of the pics:

Thanks for the hot stamp link, Lynne. Here's a bit more history regarding the Davis family. With their focus being marbles, paperweights may be few and far between which could enhance their collectible status. Of course, I am only speculating.

Oh! thank you for that link Lily - I love marbles, but know soooo little about them, vintage or new. They are so difficult.
I did hear the other day though that you can tell an old one as if you look at it the pontils are flat making it not a round globe.
