Title: Quality unknown vase - signed
Post by: WhatHo! on March 23, 2010, 05:28:04 PM
What Ho! Here is a lovely vase i have had for a couple years, maybe 30s? It measures 13cm (5 1/4") tall and 12cm across. It has vine and grapes, made of lead crystal and weighs 1.2kg. the pontil has been completely smoothed away and the signature is just off the bottom on the side, any ideas, Wolfie

I can't help thinking it looks like Vannes; is that possible? Is there an engraved range with a pseudo signature? The grapes are certainly more French than Scottish

One more:  "Varnio"  which sounds like a rare Finnish or Italian name.
There is one J.Varnio in Lithuania but he seems to be an electrician :)

(btw these 3 languages are ones with most vocals that is why they may sound alike here and there ;) )

What Ho! Thx for the attention on my vase. I think Caithness is unlikely, i think the quality is too good!! Im thinking maybe French? The quality of this vase is really good, excellent clear lead crystal and well engraved.
