hi there
its certainly not a colourway ive come across whilst collecting Mdina, so i dont think it is either. could you pop a picture of the base on. First thought for me was Caithness as ive seen similar "splatter" pattern from them.

The dealer I brought it from suggested it came from Mdina or one of their associated factories. He is quite knowledgeable but I think more so on traditional items.
Anyway thanks for the input. Here is the underneath:

First instinct was that it was prob not Mdina
-
Mtarfa, Gozo?
-
I think its possibly 1990s 2000s Mdina, not earlier though. Poss Mtarfa.

It doesn't say Mdina to me at all. The white isn't splodgy in the same way as is usual for 80's+ Mdina and it has black in it. Not Gozo, possibly Mtarfa, but again never seen one like it attributed to them either, nor Phoenician Glass. So basically unlikely to be Maltese, maybe Chinese, but I don't know enough about their turn out to say for certain. Not much help am I? Sorry! :-\

You're probably right Suzy, they dont appeal to me, so ive never really looked too closely ! :chky:

There is no black in it - looking on eBay it is very similar to this:

If it was Mdina I would expect (like in the link you provided) the white to be mottled, i.e white blobs in the clear glass. In your vase it looks more like a general white background with the odd swirl.

Avondale? it doesn't say Chinese, although I can't tell if the base is matte or shiny or how the rim is finished.

The base I would say has a slight matt finish but only very slightly.
-
I would tend quite strongly towards Mtarfa.
Mtarfa was set up by Paul Said in 1981, and developed designs from those he was doing at Mdina - this fits in with this sort of thing being produced at Mdina, at this time, but also would explain the differences - the much wider flared rim, the more angular shapes of the coloured bits, the cloudier appearance of the white in the background, and the squater base shape - with the slightly shorter almost double bulbous base rather than simply a rounded one.
Have to say, I haven't paid much attention to this particular style of post-Harris work at Mdina - I'm not at all fond of it. I don't like white in glass and I don't like splodgy too much, unless it's bright and garish.
