Title: WMF Ikora?
Post by: Lustrousstone on March 27, 2010, 09:02:23 PM
Is it WMF Ikora? And if so is it pre or post War? The stripes are silver chloride.

Hi Christine,
100% Ikora. Can you give us a straight side view and dimensions, please?
I´ll have a look into the Ikora book tomorrow to compare.

Seems to be Model E6, produced 1928 only.

Nic´s a bit faster than me...  ;)
As he says, it´s the closest match to find. The shape´s not in their 1949 and 1951 catalogue,
so it should be a pre war piece.
Anyway the smaller bowls are certainly harder to find than all the 25-35cm ones.
BTW do you have any uranium Ikora?

Thanks all.  :kissy:  Worth £4 then (I'm sure the dealer thought he was getting rid of a bit of modern tat because he ALWAYS knows what everything is even when he's wrong, invariably tells you what he paid for it and tries to charge antique centre prices at a flea market. And yesterday he just said, "Four quid; that's a nice bowl that is.")

I don't think WMF Ikora has ever entered my awareness before. And I don't mean I've never heard of it, just that I've never seen it, so no I don't have a uranium piece.  :'(

 :o

30 year ago Monart sold as Ikora, twenty years ago Ikora sold as Monart and Monart sold as Schneider, ten years ago nobody had heard of Schneider and any coloured glass was Monart.... this year Christine did not know Ikora. Has to be a story or two in that.

Five years ago Christine had never heard of any glass except, Edinburgh, Stuart and Waterford crystal (and she still can't ID any of those unless it's written on the bottom, though she can take a stab on whether a piece of crystal is decent or not).

And, obviously, whether any bit of glass is good or not!
I've not seen any U-WMF myself, but if I do Christine, it will be yours...... (depending, I suppose, on finances)
