Title: Czech zigzag pattern globe vase?
Post by: Littleblackhen on April 10, 2010, 11:00:40 PM
This is another one which feels Czech to me, although I am not sure why.  It has a zigzag pattern cut into the bowl.  It is 6 inches tall.

I still have this one waiting on the shelf to be identified.  It got more interesting tonight when I accidentally shone a uv light on it, and it gave off a very strong glow  :o  So it is probably uranium glass.

Revisiting this as I still haven't identified it, and it is driving me mad!

Does anyone have any ideas?  I have been looking at it and wondering if it might be English rather than Czech, maybe Webb?

Maybe Stevens and Williams

I hadn't thought of Stevens and Williams, now I have looked they do have some vases cut through green to clear as this one is, but usually in more ornate style of cutting, rather than this fairly plain style. It would be interesting to know if those are made with uranium glass for the green casing too.

Have you seen anything similar to this that made you think of Stevens and Williams, or was it a hunch?

Thanks for the reply :)

The colour makes me think S&W, but this isn't cut to clear is it?

I have just been examining it closely and I think it is, although it is very difficult to see.

In fact the green uranium glass casing seems to be really thin as it is scratched right through in some places, only visible under the ultra violet light, when the clear glass shows up.
