Title: Blue Opaline Decanters/Bottles
Post by: Galle on April 13, 2010, 11:27:27 AM
Looking for ID help on these two. I don't throw out the word quality haphazardly - these are QUALITY pieces. Beautiful ground and polished pontils on both; unmarked EXCEPT that there are what appear to be ground out roman numerals (XX's?) on the bottom edge. I assume this was to match up with stoppers that are long gone? From a distance they look like XXs but up close, they look like intentionally ground out areas. Both pieces have them. Has anyone seen anything like this? Thanks in advance! :)

seems to be opaline from the 1870s, either French or Bohemian - but I would expect these to have a stopper. Has the inside of the neck been smoothed out to receive a stopper?

I believe they have, Ivo.
