Title: French bowl I need some info on

I got this at an estate sale
It has a small inscription on the bottom that reads "FRANCE 17"

It has a diam of 11.5 inches and height of 2.25 inches

anyone know anything more about it :?:

Post by: Ivo on November 21, 2005, 03:02:18 PM: ARC International, the largest mechanical glass maker in the world. Used to be called Cristal d'Arques - with brand names Arcoroc, Arcuisine, Arcopal. Their glass is developed in their in-house design department which constantly renews the models. Pieces are usually embossed "France", plus number, sometimes only number.

Post by: Ivo on November 21, 2005, 10:02:32 PM: I would not call it a "mistake"per se. ARC company in Arques has its own glass school, and has the best in-house design team in the business. Their designs set trends, the quality standards are very high and there is not a country in the world they do not export to. You have both recognised the quality - I believe congratulations are in order. Sorry about the money aspect though. :roll:

Wholly agree.
Both of you should not beat yourselves up about these purchases. Ask why you thought these were good buys? You liked them???? then someone else probably will/would/does....
If you bought them because you think they may be worth X..... "Road to nowhere" springs to mind as theme music :lol: :lol:

Post by: Ivo on November 22, 2005, 07:28:00 AM: If marked FRANCE only or FRANCE +number or number only you are quite likely looking at Arques glass - though some of the Duralex factories (of which there were 6, I think) may have used numbers as well on some pieces.

Yes, I really liked it too.

Thankfully I collect as well as sell glass, and usually only tend to buy what I like, (unless it is fugly stuff that sells so fast that it is worthwhile to close my eyes and stock more :wink: ) sooooooooo
if it doesnt sell, I am more than happy to keep it. Actually rather nice to display one of my many figural flower frogs in :)
