The wife likes this one and it's here for keeps even if it came from China, it was cheap, but it couldn't be a Powell Whitefriars piece could it, could it please, it has the right pontil. :) or is that really really wishful thinking  http://tinypic.com/fxtqpg.jpg
I also "almost" bought a Wedgwood glass elephant paperweight but was a little concerned that the end of it's trunk felt a little rough which under the magnifier glass resembles a cut off pontil, does anyone know if that's the norm please :?:
Cheers.

It looks a little bit like some modern Polish glassware I have seen! (I like it, anyway  )
-
Thanks Leni,
Yes, I recently checked out some Polish Glass websites, it was quite alarming, there were a few items there that I would have sworn came from Murano.
The bowl is nice and fits the Wife's deco :!: :!:
By the way I think I should have referred to Hogan Whitefriars not Powell

There are usually a fair few of these for sale on eBay either as Whitefriars or Stourbridge vases and they go from anywhere between £2 and £30, depending on pure luck, I guess.
My gran used to have one and it dated from at least the mid-1970's. I always thought they were designed as lamp bases, though, for use with bottle lamp fittings...?

i think the piece with the spiral is actually from Romania.

Thanks Ivo  well at least it's not China. 8)

Definitely European. If you put 'em on ebay as Whitefriars it seems the unwary can be conned. If you say it's not Whitefriars-like I did with mine- it does not sell!!

Hi Pat,
She's found a "nice" place for it so it stay's I'm afraid. It only cost £3 in a flea market. I have a vase closing on ebay tonight that I listed here just over a week ago that's amassed a very nice £127 so far so she can have this one.Bless :!:

I've just seen a similar vase in a charity shop. This one was clear with a white spiral. It had a Woolworths sticker on the bottom but with no country of origin.
-
Thanks, It's a minefield out there!!!

This one looks like it but your vase appears to have a longer neck.

Yes, it certainly looks familiar. This company is known to me. I purchased 2 pieces of Krosno back at least 10 years ago, a vase and a perfume bottle in the same design, and both still carry the Krosno label. My wife always wanted another of the perfumes to complete her display!!.
Looking through the site I also noticed a vase that I have often seen discribed as being definately Scandinavian. :?
It is all very confusing, not only to the layman like myself, but also for many so called experts.
Thanks,

I think the piece with the spiral is actually from Romania
I know of a piece in my local dealers with modern 'Made in Romania' label on it, very like LSA so it surprised me to see that label
I know nothing about modern Romanian glass production
This is the most I could find http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/11064937/Glass_Decorative_Vase/showimg.html

Hi Ray,
So there is, where on Earth did they get the connection with Webb from  Art Deco hey
Perhaps I should ask them.

Just found where I think the Webb Corbett link came from, the Is it Whitefriars board 25/7/2005 the question was asked and the only reply came from a lady who had seen a very similar lamp conversion in her local Antique shop which was discribed as being Webb Corbett. My Home's mystery deepens - Watson :!: .

If I believed all the labels down one of my local antique shops I'd think it a wonderful place of endless Whitefriars... and not just dusty & generic Polish/Murano/Chinese glass.
They also have one of these vases/lamp bases in the shop window, but oddly haven't tried to give it a WF attribution. £24 they want for it too!
