Title: More studio glass maybe - cased jug?
Post by: Glen on April 14, 2010, 04:46:59 PM
Here is the other piece my friend bought at auction. Any thoughts please! It also appears cased and is surely of very recent make. It's a striking piece of glass.

I would say that perhaps they were both modern Chinese. This form in particular seems very common, although not in this pattern IYSWIM.

Base pix?

Hi Christine - many thanks for your thoughts. The glass is very heavy, by the way. I took a reasonable shot of the base of the jug. The base is polished and very smooth. Pic below.

I'd rather agree with Christine, Glen - modern Chinese and absolutely wonderful. Cheerful and colourful, and I bet it looks good with flowers in it - the wide rim will frame them beautifully, while the constriction just under it will hold the stems together.

They do look very like what was available on the old cnexpot site, which moved to zxglass, which has in turn vanished. They were selling pieces very like Dale Chihuly's, which may be why the sites disappeared so quickly.

Thank you all very much indeed, Christine, Sue and Cathy. My friends (neighbours actually) will be delighted to know a little more about them. I was struck by them when I saw the pieces, they really are very attractive.

Thank you again.
