Title: Hallmarked silver - 1937 Coronation coin - paperweight

This is rather plain as far as its glass content is concerned, but I think nice all the same.  Are these quite common?

At least you have a maker on it! Can't really see if it is a coin or simply a medallion or where the hallmark is.

As far as the name on the paperweight goes I have found this:

the medal/coin is hallmarked for 1936... but how did they know he was going to be king in 1936? as it was Edward who was king in 1936

Edward abdicated  11th December 1936, so it would have been known then that Albert as Duke of York and heir presumptive would then be king, and that the coronation would take place some months later in 1937.  George VI's coronation date of 12th May 1937 was the date that had been planned for Edwards coronation.  Hence the medal would have been made in December 1936, with the appropriate hallmark, showing 1937 coronation date.
