Title: Help with my 1st Sunday find
Post by: davidfish1212 on April 22, 2010, 06:34:43 PM
Hello all, I was looking for any info on this bit of glass I picked up at the local boot sale. I was told the piece was old and bought many years ago, but i'm not so sure. It is rougly 6" accross and 3" high. It has a very hand made look, the rim is very ' up and down'.  It has a very rough pontil to the base. Lots of bubble inclusions within the glass, all very random. Really nice blue colour, kinda kingfisher blue.
Thanks for any help, David

sorry this is a bit vague, and I have forgotten the name/country of production.     I recently had a piece with similar bubbles  - presumably imitating antiquity - from either German or Dutch source from the 50's  60's studio glass.    There were at least two ranges, mostly in greenish or brown colourways, and showing heavily bubbled metal, and shape wise they were commonly decanter/carafe types.   One of the trade names might have been something like 'Antique'.    Hope someone like Dirk or Ivo can help more.

me too. It is not Antiqua from Maastricht, it is not Verre Antique from Gobbe Hocquemiller Belgium, it could be Biot but not very likely - maybe Borske Sklo, but I dunno,  sorry.

Thanks Dirk and Ivo for input/info, for now this vase (like many I have) remains a mystery, David

yes, it was 'Antiqua' that I was trying to think of Ivo, thank you  -  especially seeing the variety of bubble size in picture 3.    How about Chinese then?
