Title: Green Pulled Vase (and Bubbles)
Post by: antiquerose123 on May 05, 2010, 12:05:54 AM: Hi I bought Myself :spls2: this today. I call it a pulled vase, since that is what it looks like. The top is a bit loped, as the highest edge is about 9.75 inches tall, WHILE the lower top edge is about 9.25 inches tall from the base. The top opening is about 3 inches wide, while the bottom spans about 2.80 inches across.

The bottom has some wear, and appears to have a pontil mark -- plus there looks to be some ashes or something on the bottom of the glass. I am going to post some picture (4) here PLUS I am going to post some additional pix in a following post to show what I mean about the bottom......So Please see all pics.

Any ideas on maker, age, or value on this piece? I hope it is OK, as I like it.

See, I think it helped doing this... :thup:

although I've not seen one in the same colourway as yours... the ones I've seen are clear base and coloured stem...

Dogbone - gee I never thought it looked like that -- BUT it does...lol. Is Aseda good? Or so-so? How does it rate in the Glass World? How are the values for these? I paid $25 for this, as I treated myself (and to a few more, as you see :spls2:).

What year would these be from....and worth keeping, or not??

I still like it -- seems I have quite a few :mrgreen: GREEN :mrgreen: Glass things. Maybe I should have kept the Green Money instead ?? It is still OK piece of glass?

Post by: astrid on May 05, 2010, 05:12:49 AM: I recently paid EUR 5 for one, and I've seen the one you have recently listed for the same price. Both were sellers though that didn't mention Aseda, and put their vases in the home decoration category rather than the (art) glass sections. Over here they're apparently not very rare, so I doubt they're worth much more than say EUR 5 to EUR 10 currently. On the other hand, they look quite decorative. I fully intend to keep the one I have for the time being and maybe add a few to it to make a nice little group if I can get around the shipping costs.

PS - I do have the feeling that the bubbles in the clear base of mine are more controlled and neater, but I can't be sure from the photo. Do the bubbles look like they are in a controlled pattern, or do they look randomly thrown together? The latter might suggest that these one coloured versions are perhaps later ones with less quality?

Almost certainly Aseda Glasbruk of Sweden. They come in a myriad of colours, some have clear bases and coloured stems, others have white interiors to the stem. They are sometimes referred to as Jack in the Pulpit (JIP) as well as dog bone.

Just as an interesting aside and nothing to do with your vase, Holmegaard made a dog bone shape (http://www.glashistoriskselskab.dk/index.php/joomgallery/Holmegaard-designet-glas/Per-Lutken/Per-Lutken-1942-1959/Knoglevase-1952-2402)as well, but without the bubbles and I'd guess most would be signed. Wonder whether Nic has managed to track one down yet?

Post by: astrid on May 06, 2010, 07:43:36 AM: I remember reading somewhere (but I can't remember where exactly, so this may be untrustworthy, sorry) that Per Lütke did the original design of this type for Holmegaard, but that his version was never really produced commercially, more like a few unica or a very small series, so I don't expect to see any of these anytime soon...
