Hi, I have no experience with PW here - but have always wanted some since I have been a member here. We I just bought some so I need help as I have no idea about them at all. Sorry for the photos, some good, some bad.
This has a yellow flower in it, it is not a complete round shaped as one might imagine. I wrote the height somewhere, but misplaced it already. The base appears to have some wear on it. I think it was 3 inches tall. (I will re-check on that.....) Any ideas on it? Age, maker, etc? Is this Chinese? If it is -- I still like it :)
Help?
Thanxs

Yes Chinese. Some of the flower ones are very pretty
-
Thxs lustrousstone.....is there a certain name for the shape? As it is not round, round like one would imagine. It kinda goes up, then starts to round over at the top. The sides are a bit straighter near the bottom -- if you know what I mean.
I like it cuz it can FILL all those tiny little empty spaces STILL left in my china glass.... :24: See, there is a use for them

For the shape ... "tall dome" would be as good as it gets amongst paperweight collectors. Unless anyone has different views onthat, of course.
As a general point of Id, Chinese flower weights very often (or even "usually") have three (or two?) thin green stems/leaves beneath the flower. That feature, when present, is as good as a generic "Made in China" label.

Okey Dokey -- so if you see that -- it is Chinese? I will have to roam around here a bit more as I no nothing about them, but I like them too - and they are about the only thing that fits (in the spaces) in my Glass Cabinet. LOL
Can we buy Glass Cabinets off here - - - :24:
Thanks KevH ;)

Don't need to put them in spaces in cabinets ... I have at least 60 paperweights on the floor as a channel to my tv - and they are not just cheap and cheerful ones ;D

need to post us a pic of that kevH? So we can see it....That would be awesome!

ok ... complete with dust patches everywhere and that nice Mr Brown on TV hoping to still
ruin run the country :)

Oh Wow.....that is neat. You are right, as there are many other places for them -- and what a collection there   Super.
I guess my yellow Chinese PW can be used as a *door Stop* :24: Oh, well -- I have to live and learn...

Your Chinese paperweight should be used for what it is - a nice example of a gift item of a type that many folk enjoy; and it should be treated as part of a collection just like any other item you buy because you like it and/or chose to have it for its interest etc.
A collection of general Chinese weights can make a wonderful display.

They would look nice on a base with mini LED light base on it (as the post about up-lighting). I still like it. It is OK

Rose has a teenager with large feet; I don't recommend that arrangement for her lounge!

Hi,
I love the 'all round' TV display. And wouldn't I like to have some of these weights on my own floor/collection, too. ;)
Never invite me, I may not resist coming with deep pockets. >:D
Actually, I will hide this picture from my husband. He might take it as a warning of things to come. And that would never do! ;D

Hi Kev
Thanks for posting the image of your TV approach path. We feel a lot less guilty about various parts of our house now (although ours is not decorated with quite such attractive items)!

Alan - as I remember it, your house showed no parts to be guilty about. Or do you do as I do, before visitors arrive ... move all the "stuff" into a room that is unlikely to be seen ... and then move it all back again when the visitors have gone? ;D
-
Hi Kev
I think that there is always an element of tidying up before visitors arrive! (Clearing a path through the debris, hiding the weights bought in error, putting away embarrassing parts of one collection, and so on).
You may recall we have an old barn covered in climbing plants.....
