Hi all
A friend of mine is the manager at a charity superstore type of thing, he is a glass lover too but often has pieces waiting for me in the back room to ID for him.
Today he had this gorgeous vase which is signed but i really cant make the signiture out at all, unfortunitly i only had the camera on my phone so pics are not great.
The vase stands at around 10 inches tall (ish) has a snapped off pontil and the signiture sits right into the pontil making it very difficult to make out.
I think it starts with an A and the last 2 letters look like RR ??
Any ideas on maker
many thanks
michelle

thanks suzy im now just researching him trying to get an idea on prices my friend John has only put £30 on it but i think it may be to low from the BIN's on ebay although they are often over exagerated.

although cant find any sold examples

Not a clue as to prices for his stuff I'm afraid - not coming up with much on searches either. Hopefully someone else can help.

Im a meany , but id snatch that one for £30.
I would think your friend could get double that.
;D

...but he might be better selling it on fleabay, as I'm not sure most of Fenland would necessarily be up on Anthony Stern. Depends where the shop is.
-
shops in cambridge, i believe that is Sterns birthplace so there may be a few people in the know on him.
John doesnt do Ebay ;D, he is a real no no when it come to anything internet wise.
I do quite like it myself, and was very tempted to buy it but at the time couldnt think what the signiture was (plus in a bit strapped right now :P and £30 on something your not sure on is quite a bit) Im working near the shop tomorrow morning so may pop back in and pick it up (if its still there).
I will tell him what it is first though, he normally lets me have things at what they are originally priced at because ive ID'd quite a lot for him in the past.
cheers

Hi Michelle,
Nice vase, seen a handful of Anthony Stern pieces priced up over the last couple of months. As a ballpark figure I would reckon it should be worth at least £70-90.

many thanks Greg, ive bought it now picking it up next week though, not sure yet what i will do with it probably go into my own collection for a while.

I'd agree with Greg re. the sort of money Stern's work goes for - I've watched a few bits go out of my range, after I got to recognise it.
I have a small plate, (signed) in a dull dried-blood sort of red and white, and a beautiful little glass, in deep blues, greens and ambers, unsigned.
-
funnily enough, i was asked to ID a goblet a few weeks before the cambridge glass fair, obviously at the time i couldnt ID it, she wanted £25 for it, because i didnt know I left it, but did tell her all about the glass fair. I bumped into her at the fair and she had taken the goblet, as i was chatting to her i introduced her to Mark Hill and he ID'd the goblet as one of Anthony Sterns pieces (that was my 10 second to late flash back :D)
But i will certainly remember it now and be looking out for it

A small glass - large sherry sized, unsigned, but I believe to be by
Anthony Stern. The pics do not do it justice. The pattern/design is
one that is very distictive, although it only really shows when you
look inside the bowl. The ouside is actually quite different.
