I know this decanter isn't old and probably machine made even. I brought it home because it was criminally cheap, and because I had a vague notion it might be recent Leerdam (but I couldn't find it there, so probably not). But I really, really like the design. I would like to know a bit more about it. It could be from a score of factories that produce functional glassware from anywhere around the world (like Leonardo). So it's a long shot, but if you happen to have seen things like it I would be grateful for any tidbit.
Another question I have is who originally designed this sort of thing. I'm fairly sure this one is just a mass produced version from a copied design, but it does beg the question who originally conceived such a nice form.
Measurements: the decanter itself is 29 cm high, 32.5 cm high with the additional glass in it. The base is 13.5 cm wide, and the rim is 7.5 cm wide. The little glass is 11 cm high, and 8 cm wide. The total weighs about 1350 gram. I haven't photographed the base. It doesn't look polished or handmade at all, and it has the faint rings that I normally see in massproduced wine glasses, so I assume that means machine made.

Difficult one - I know that the original of this concept is a small "eva" decanter with glass stopper made by Bergdala in Sweden in the early seventies. But similar things have been made in Leerdam designed by Meijdam - the most "inspired" designer ever. I have no idea who did this particular model.

Thanks Ivo for your reference, I've looked up the Bergdala Eva, and I can see how it inspired this type the design, that's one of the main things I wanted to know.
As for your reference to Meydam, when I first saw it, I was indeed reminded of some of Meydam's (especially the Milano sherry set) and van Marel's decanters I'd seen (the Nova series), hence my first idea it might be Leerdam.
So far online I've found some examples by LSA, Poland, and a Greek factory that have the hourglass type shape and the little glass in it, but are just not the same. There are so many manufactors of this type of table ware, it will probably remain a mystery. With this type of ware, I don't mind as much as with art glass. I bought this one for the design only, and it's great to look at. I would simply start using it if I weren't so prone to knock this sort of thing over all the time :)
