I expect that this vase is probably too old to ID but am ever hopeful :-)
It is dark kingfisher blue in colour with pontil as in image 4. The vase is hand painted all around to depict a koi carp pond it has lily's, white, cloud like koi carp and a central strange animal with a snake like body. All of the lily's have a gold outline (like cloisonne effect). Any help appreciated as always or advice where best to look to ID.

My guess would be Harrach or even Moser. Gorgeous :hiclp: :hiclp:

How about Royo ?? Spanish,

an example from Max.
Have a search on here for Royo. I think theres plenty of threads.

Not really my area, but your vase could be by Gordiola, Spain. See elsewhere on this board for pieces signed 'Royo'. The reason I suggest this is that the base colour of your vase is consistent with some signed Royo vases I've seen and also the gilt outlines and mythical creature are all things I've seen before on Royo.

I think that the quality of paintwork exceeds that of royo to be honest. It is not as freely painted, more controlled.

I have written to Gordiola to ask if they know it is is one of theirs, not sure they would know now as I feel the vase is pretty old.

Thanks JP, I will do more research on the net and see what turns up.
Does anyone have a guestimate to possible age? For some reason my instict is telling me 1850-1900 but am probably way off ;-)

I have had am email back from Moser and they have said that it is NOT a Moser piece but possibly Bohemian and they suggested possibly Novoborské sklo. This said, I cannot see any similarity to their wares readily available by searching the net.

Does anyone have any new ideas regarding this quality old vase, I have looked at Royo and Novoborské sklo but the vase is in a different league of quality to them. The enamelling is truly excellent quality.
I have found this link to an item that has exactly the same small decorated flowers with gold outline http://www.allantiqueglass.com/view_item.php3?id=187081 (http://www.allantiqueglass.com/view_item.php3?id=187081)

Royo's grown up apprentice..... ;D
I would ask at Gordiola, if only to rule them out.

Thanks John.
I have had a look on G search and can see many images of similarly enamelled pieces attributed to Auguste Jean and feel that this could well be the vases source. Auguste Jean also seemed to have a lot of oriental influence in their enamel decoration. Opinions?
-
I would think Legras is a serious contender. The style is not Royo (which would a/ be signed and b/ in a neo mudejar style) and I do not think it is by A. Jean either. Legras produced a lot of high quality enamel decoration on especially bulb vases - which I assume this is - in styles ranging from classic, nouveau, oriental, cubist to other.

Thanks Ivo.
I have looked at many Legras images online but so far cannot find anything with a similar style of decoration.
The glass is heavey and fairly thick. The base has a nipple style centre, almost like a small round belly button which petrudes, I have personally not come across this style of base before.
