Title: Bluebirds, Berries and translucent green leaves
Post by: meegs on June 08, 2010, 07:41:36 AM
Hello Everyone,
Our obsession with 20th century glass extends to jewellery!
My Daughter bought these two necklaces together recently and they are very similar in style and construction and I assume maker.
Would any of you knowledgeable people be able to enlighten us with ideas about  origin and age.
They are both about 45cm in length (the extension chain appears to be a later addition to the blue one)
The stems of berries, leaves and birds have the wires set inside the glass beads.
Neither of these pieces react to UV Black light.
Cheers
Meegs

Looks very much like Michele Michaud's work. See attached site. http://sattvagallery.com/jewelry.html A favourite jeweller of my sister's.

Thank-you Carolyn,
Michael Michaud's contemporary work is lovely. Was Michele his mother?
My gut feeling is that these two pieces are possibly mid century or earlier. The Chap who sold them to us said he had bought them more than 30yrs ago from an Elderly woman (although I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time I've been led astray by a trader!) Also because of the style and the way the catches are constructed - if indeed the catches are original.
It would be lovely to know their true origin, in the meantime while my daughter is the custodian of them she is getting enjoyment from wearing them.
Regards
Meegs

Hi there - another Canadian here.

I too think that they are older.  The little panels in the chain (blue one) near the back --- remind me of a Victorian necklace that I have here.  They look like the same panels chain type, but my clasp is different.

I (think) if I were to guess here -- I would say in a real big Ball-Park era of being from the 1890 - to the 1940's era

Antiquerose123,
Thanks for the links, I was rather taken by the necklace at Rubylane and in my ignorance had not even considered the necklaces could be Italian, I was leaning more toward Eastern European.

Nope, just my bad spelling. Name is pronounced in the French way and so I spelt it that way. Sorry about that. Perhaps such necklaces inspired Michael.  :chky:
