Title: Uranium Glass Decanter ?
Post by: leanne_surv on June 11, 2010, 01:30:45 AM
Hi Everyone !!

I am new here so I hope get this right :-)

I was wondering if any one has any idea what this decanter could be.

It is uranium glass because it glows under the UV light and it seems to be hand cut because it is not perfectly / symmetrically cut. The base is hollow, I don't know what that is called but like the bottom of a wine bottle. There is white scale on the inside but I don't know what has been in it. It is 26cm tall and about 15cm across the base.
On the stopper I can see the cutting / grinding marks on each facet

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Leanne

Hi Leanne and welcome to the board. :)  Your photos are somewhat on the small side to be able to see... can you add larger ones please? If you make the longest side around 800 pixels (or 8"/20cm if your image program uses length rather than pixels) then save for web you should have a good size image that will still fit under the board's 125kb file size limit. The board will create the wee thumbnails for you when you add the pictures, which are then clickable to make them visible full size.

If you get stuck and need help with the images just holler for help, either on the board or drop me or one of the other Moderators an email and we'll come rescue you.

Nice decanter and definitely uranium. Unfortunately the white scale is water marking, which is virtually impossible to remove except by polishing.
