Now, I have seen a Whitefriars shape very like this vase I bought, but it has no pontil and is a sort of apple green, a colour I have not seen in whitefriars. It is very heavy and substantial, and just over 7ins high. It is sort of a twisted oblong shape. Any help will be most welcome
Thanks as always
Lyn
Tried a brighter pic as suggested

Hi Lyn :)
It's a shame your pictures are so dark... could you post new ones with the vase against a light background? Thank you!

Pattern 9386 was the whitefriars one I referred to..in the1966 catalogue anyway

Hi, I've added Whitefriars to your subject line to attract the attention of people who will know, but I'm pretty certain this isn't 9386 or Whitefriars. #9386 is much heavier, has larger lobes, a rounded base shape and a slight spiral.

IMHO Not Whitefriars at all .jp

There's your clue, Lyn. All Whitefriars colours are known and named, and Emmi has done an excellent job of listing and dating them on WF.com and .org As a very good guide to ID I would always go by the colour of a piece - it may look like a Whitefriars pattern, but if it's not one of the known WF colours, it's not by Whitefriars :)

I have seen several of these vases on ebay over the last few months (not Whitefriars) and it's true there are similarities.
However, the Whitefriars was not made in Meadow Green which is the closest colour which resembles your vase, and the shape is way off. Here's a link to the catalogue

On the W/F ones, the lobes at the base are very defined and there is a ground out and polished pontil on all the ones I own.

Thanks all, I thought it 2wasn't wf but has anyone a clue of the maker? It is good quality and very heavy so I would be interested to know if anyone out there has any ideas. Thanks again

Hi,
I have seen these before and I always thought they were Czech. The whitefriars vase is twisted and has 5 lobes. It is available in meadow green (a very short production run and a rare vase)
See a poor photo of the example I found last year:

Hope this helps to clarify.
Cheers,
