Yes I know it's hideous but I can't help myself,8 inches high,3 part mould, not seen another and dread what comments may arise from this post :pb: :pb: :pb:

Hi Keith,
my guess(!) would be Empoli.
-
Hello Keith - how about a recommendation for Ivo's 'ugliest vase of the year year' award ;D
-
Thanks Dirk for such a quick response, will look into that,
Keith.
-
Thanks Paul ;D,it may well be the worst piece I have!
-
Keith, I really don't think the vase is hideous... I kinda like it. (P.S. to Paul: The ugliest and most vulgar piece I've seen is that nasty coquille-or-whatever-thing you posted a few days ago... YYYICH!)

Hi, been discussed before

Mod: Changed from tinyurl back to Glass Gallery link, because a. link was to the dynamic link at the top rather than the fixed link in the description, b. tinyurl links become dead after a while.

Thanks Chris, about a year before I joined the Gmb.

thats easy for you to say.........I've just spent two hours on the internet trying to work out which acronym that is!! - thought it was something like...YRYOCC ... actually it might still be for all I know. ;D ;D and I thought you had a soft spot for me ;)

Opalina Fiorentina, Empoli. I've had a couple of pitchers using the same style of 'bobbles' in the past, one of which was labelled.
-
Thanks everyone, odd the way a funny little piece like this sometimes gets more posts than other more 'fancy' glass,
-
Probably because it is more intriguing and interesting Keith. And the 'who is it by factor'...
-
I've no doubt it's Opalina Fiorentina, but the bobbles seem to be quite different in Keith's piece.
-
I found this one recently and in the description it was attributed to Sklo Union. Am I correct in thinking this is wrong?
-
Yes you are right, they are wrong. :rah:
-
The Sklo Union group of factories only produced pressed glass, this is blown. These are found in different colours and shapes, cheerful enough, for no particularly good reason here is one in blue. ;D

Thanks for the guidance. In which case, as it isn't Sklo, who made these??

Read back on the thread, the info is there

As Cathy mentioned earlier , the knobbles on Nic's jug look different to me. The knobbles on the other three items in the thread all look as though they have come from the same place but Nic's jug looks different :-\

The colours look right though
-
I had not considered Empoli for these before but that region does seem to be a strong possibility (I have no other reasonable suggestion).
I think Nic is not claiming that the jug shown has the same bobbles - he has provided an image of a known bit of glass from Empoli. He did say that he had a few in the past which were similar though. Plenty of similarities - thin walled, white glass cased with a colour, cheerful 'pop art' design, etc.
We need to find one with a label.... :X:

John, the colours of all the pieces in this thread look very Empoli (and probably Opalina Fiorentina). I think Max had a piece at one stage in that distinctive cased yellowy amber that turned out to be from Empoli.

Hi all,
I have stumbled up this piece on ebay with a label...
Ebay ID: 360328097420
I think John's blue one is a Star Made In Japan piece and also zebirdy's green one. Not sure about Keiths still though although i would lean to it being the same...I will ask if i can get some pics email to me for reference...
-
Well spotted! :hiclp:
Funnily enough I saw a pair of these on the weekend in a different shape but in the same orange/red, thinly cased in clear (no labels).

I have been given been permission by the ebay seller to post the pictures here... :chky:
They are a bit big so I will have to resize. Will be a couple of weeks before I can post them here as I have to move this weekend and will be on holidays after this (no technology for 2 weeks - i cannot wait). Hopefully I can get it done before then though... :sun:
-
Happy moving day(s) Kane :fc:

So here is the pics for future reference with thanks from Annette. Emails can be provided to show I have been allowed to post here.
Thanks carolyn...I hate packing... :phew: LOL

Just thought I would update this thread. I have recently found another of these vases with a label which reads Lefton's Japan. I have attached a pic but it is a little out of focus so apologies. I think a couple of others that I have are from the same maker as they have similar bases (quite thick in clear coloured glass) and thin rims. The other I have (darker green) may be Star as it doesn't have such a thick base but a rim twice the thickness of the others. Unless Star and Lefton's are the same maker (I'm new to all this).......I know they may be hideous but I actually quite like them....
-
Lefton appears to be an importer of goods made in Japan - George Zoltan Lefton - http://www.collectics.com/education_lefton.html
Just for interest - a vase that I've had with a Lefton label
