since acquiring this earlier today, I have had it down as Sowerby Rubine - Brockwitz - Davidson or one of the red Carnival pieces.   I've looked through Pamela's Brockwitz calalogue completely - and thought it looked like the Zurich and Ariadne type ruby bowls with the toothed top edge, but no joy.   9.25 inches maximum across the top, and about 3.5 inches high.   Really is a corker of a pressed bowl, especially with the light behind.   Think the main outline pressed design is a 'Star of David' - yes/no?  -  but despite cooking the brain for a couple of hours can't really decide on a correct name for the six part curved top rim (how about 'hexafoil') ;D.     Reasonable amount of wear on the base, and some internal scratches, as you would expect from something that may be 50 - 80 years old.   I expect many of you will know it's provenance, so would be very grateful if someone is able to let me know, and as always thanks for looking.   cheers.

It looks like Sowerby's 2411 (or 2411½  :huh:) from their 1927 cat. (Sowerby's Ellison Glass Works Volume Two George V to Elizabeth II - Thistlewood & Thistlewood).
I'm sure someone will confirm :)
I had an oval shape version.  Fabulous colour!

thanks a million Anne - and yes, I know I should have the three discs. - it's just that when I keep on buying glass I forget to get the back up data. :-[   Am I correct in calling this 'Rubine', which was a trade name given by Sowerby's to their creation in 1881/1882 of this attractive deep red glass (the books say that selenium has to be used in combination with cadmium sulphide in order to get this deep ruby).   Do you know for how long Sowerby continued to produce this design? My thanks again for your help. :)

funny how you can go ages and not see certain types.     I'm thinking this is also a Sowerby 'Rubine' piece, and if I can ask Anne E.B. to help one last time please with an id, then perhaps the mods. will move to British...      thanks Ann  -  and as you say, this is a fantastic colour.   cheers         Paul S.
