Title: ID help
Post by: marc on July 02, 2010, 05:41:23 PM
Hi everyone, I've recently bought this paperweight. Could it be a Bohemian 19th century?
Thanks in advance.

Simple answer: yes it could be 19th C Bohemian..

More complicated answer: I think you will find that some of the components of the millefiori canes include little 5 armed 'starfish' canes. I have seen - or seen images of - maybe 8 weights by this maker, and written a short article on them a year or so ago.  The problem is that no one is certain which country they come from (maybe France, maybe 'Bohemia'), or who might have made them, or even when they were made! I have even heard it suggested that they are Pantin millefiori, but I do not think that is the case. It is an interesting puzzle.
