Title: ID Help Old Stapled Decanter Georgian?

I am researching this decanter on behalf of my local Air Ambulance Charity shop. This item was donated to them and I was surprised to see that it had been repaired with staples. I know that old plates have this type of repair but that when glues came in to use this practice died out so I am assuming that this piece is an antique. I was wondering whether it would still have any value as I was going to list it on Ebay on their behalf, the stopper is in good condition and fits well so I think it is original. Unfortunately although well stapled the decanter is not watertight although it may have been when the repair was done as the staples have degenerated a little leaving a black residue.

If anyone could give me any info as to a likely age or any other information it would be very helpful to me when listing and you will be doing a good turn for a great charity. :)

I'll have a dig around here for a longish, fascinating and technical thread we had here a good while ago, about a stapled piece David Encill gave me.
I wanted it as much for the repair as the item itself - it's so interesting!

I'm afraid I can't help much with your decanter, per se, but can't help thinking if you get hold of a bit of the interesting stuff about the repair, you might be able to use that as a selling feature rather than as damage?

Thanks for that very interesting and I will add the stapling information to my listing because as you say it might create more interest. I think it would be an interesting piece to own for someone who collects glass of this period and although it may not fetch much every penny counts where charity is concerned.

It certainly feels old, it is not like any other decanter I have seen which were most probably machine made this seems to have been crafted but then it's all guesswork because I am basically clueless about glass of this age.
