Title: Chance,Fiesta floral,question...
Post by: keith on July 06, 2010, 02:16:52 PM
Not a botanist but these look more like pansys than honeysuckle, page 75 of David's book,

Hmm, you're right(ish), but those flowers aren't pansies either. Depends where David got the names from. It's possible that someone at Fiesta was botanically challenged (most of the US glass factories were). David isn't too hot on flowers, so he might have been confuddled and put the wrong name with the wrong picture.

Nope, I'm no botanist! Attached is a scan of the original sample card for Honeysuckle, so I'm not sure what that pattern is as there isn't a card for this.

Edit: I do remember getting quite muddled with all the Fiesta patterns, but thought I'd got that right. Ah well, one for the Errata...

The problem with identifying the Fiesta Glass Ltd (i.e. non-Chance) patterns is that I did not have any recorded patterns to go from, and others were just mystifying. I therefore felt that I had to make a passing nod to legacy items, but it didn't help when I learned that most of the company records had been dumped, which is in total contrast to the fastidious approach of Chance Bros.

As I said in a previous posting, someone else can write the book on Fiesta Glass Ltd...  >:D

I'd say they might be clematis looking at the leaf and flower shapes, but they could even be dog roses!

Ah, yes, thanks Anne. I think that one was called Wild Rose.  :hiclp:

Isn't the yellow flower what they call a rock rose (not a rose at all really)?

Yellow one looks like Geum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geum - a member of the rose family, hence the similarity. :) I meant the large reddish ones in the middle... they all look like hedgerow-type flowers in a way.
