eBay has an endless parade of these always listed as Whitefriars... probably because of the inverted pontil and polished base... but I know they're not (well, the catalogues I looked through know they're not!). But does anyone know what they are? :)

Edit: I was just pottering around Whitefriarsorg.org, and they have this cream jug listed in their August 2004 auction archive. If they are WF, I'm guessing they pre-date 1957?

It is very sweet, isn't it? My father's amassing a small army of them from fairs and carboots - I got this one to add to his multitude of many on Sunday.

Nic - I've just spotted a jug that looks similar in shape to yours on the WF site catalogues - pat.9718 and 9719, measuring 5 and 1/4" and 6 1/4" high. No indication of colour though. Might be worth submitting a picture for identification.
I didn't realise I had so many WF pieces! :lol: :shock:

Needs verification but I would say this is a Whitefriars without holding it and feeling it which is what I like to do.
If I were to pick this up at a boot fair I would be chuffed!!

Nic I've got two blue ones like this...I don't know where, but they're about somewhere... :lol: I've seen amber ones like this one too, they're the same as mine. I've always thought they were WF. But, now I come to think about it, I haven't seen them in a catalogue. :?
Will you stick this one on WF.com, so we can know for sure?
Edit: Umm...I think mine have self coloured handles, not clear...I'll have to dig them out tomorrow.

These are NOT Whitefriars. This and many others similar ARE usually POLISH! LOL!!! I have seen lots with "Made in Poland" labels. No idea why.
Whitefriars glass in Scotland, where I live, is relatively uncommon. I do though see a lot of these jugs about.
From the fifties up to today a lot of similar jugs have been made by a variety of sources. Many are Scandinavian and look like Whitefriars for instance.
Jugs in this style by Whitefriars were generally first shown in their 1957 catalogue and continued until their end in 1980. They are well documented.

I didn't think they were Whitefriars, just because of their sheer numbers in charity shops, carboots, etc... but I was just a bit confused when I saw them included in Whitefriarsorg.org's auction archive.
I must admit, though, this small amber jug has a much smoother, cleaner finish than the other ones my father owns.

There are a couple of errors in the Whitefriars auction archives. We can't all be right all of the time! LOL!!!

Well it only cost me one whole new English pound... so I'm sure my father will be content with it, be it Scandi or Polish, when he gets back from his holiday. :)
