Title: POSSIBLY STRATHEARN PAPERWEIGHT
Post by: Rosie1 on July 17, 2010, 01:45:51 PM
Hi,

This is the other p/w I have listed which I think is Strathearn.
Just wondered it's age and any other details.
It stands just over 2.1/4" high & almost 3" dia, but it's colours are much more muted that the other I have listed.

Regards

Hi Rosie

Yes this is also Strathearn.

These spoke weights were made from the start of Strathearn in 1964 right through until Strathearn was taken over by Stuart Crystal in 1980 when all millefiori work finished. They come in all sizes from around 1 1/2" up to 3 1/4" some are also facetted.

There would have been many thousands made during this period.

There is useful information about Strathearn in two books :

Scottish paperweights by Robert Hall and

Paperweights from GB 1930 - 2000 by John Simmonds

Best regards

Derek
