It does look like something Wedgwood would make, doesn't it? Maybe it just ran off before they could get its base polished.  :wsh:

Added on -- I checked some Wedgwood elephants online. They had a similar but different design. So I would guess probably not Wedgwood.

the shape is similar to wedgwood, if it is, maybe this is a second with the base not been polished

It doesn't look like a Wedgwood colour and the shape looks wrong. Langham Glass?

I really don't think so, but there may be a Harris/Mdina connection, there's a possibility it could be Malta Decorative Glass - research is currently ongoing about this very short lived company and the involvement of Vicente Boffo there.

Does anybody recognise the actual style of the elephant? It looks a bit different to most elephants you see, trunk down, and no ears........

Hi Keith,  Happy Birthday!!

I am pretty certain this is Wedgwood.  They produced trunk up and trunk down ellies, and there was a period when they had some pretty speckled glass combinations.
I have a couple that didn't have polished bases......I can't be certain if this signified that they were seconds,  but the shape certainly looks very Wedgwood to me., and I have several of them.  There is a 'dimple' on the top of the head which often indicates that it is Wedgwood.
The only other people that I know who did mottled ellies in this style was Avondale Glass in Pembrokeshire,  but as far as I know, they only made trunk up ellies.

Thanks Rosie, been a good day,the elephant will be returned to the Mother-in-law I doubt if she will care where it was from, she probably forgot she had it I only found it when we were renovating her bungalow who knows how long it had been there along with pieces of Caithness,Empoli,Bohemian, scent bottles,Whitefriars,it's only me that cares, drives me up the wall not knowing where stuff comes from, going on a bit now should probably go to bed now considering how old I am,now :ho: thanks again ;D
