Title: coin in stem glass
Post by: Philg on July 18, 2010, 11:00:10 AM
Hello all, I wondering if you can give me information on a glass I have bought with a 3 pence 1890 coin in a knop in the stem and the words "good luck 1891" etched into it, it stands at 6.2" or 155 mm, I'm having troubles downloading a photo but will continue to try, thanks Phil.

What Ho! There is not a great deal to say about this glass really Phil as the coin gives us 2 pieces of information, the date and that it is English. The coin is a Victorian 'Maundy' 3d, these are sterling silver and originally given out to the poor. The glass itself is not the earlier heavy cut type and looks finer, much more Art & Crafts. I have know idea who might of made this, cheers Wolfie

Ummm, the coin gives you the date and englishness of the coin, the glass could have been made at any time since.
It's not earlier than the coin though. ;)
