Title: Large Davidson plinth No 6 i think. Help please - ID = Brockwitz
Post by: bungie60 on July 22, 2010, 06:04:47 PM
Picked this up the other day very much like a Davidson plinth with the three feet. But i have not seen this shape, also the number 6 or 9 is pressed into the top not the base. Held up to the light it is amethyst. The measurements are
over all diameter 8 1/4", Top measurement 6 3/8", Would take a vase or centerpiece bowl with a base of 5 3/4" diameter. Stands 1 5/8" high. I would imagine what ever stands on it would be very impressive. Any help appreciated yours Mark

Mark — Not Davidson, as their round plinths are all to a similar design and never waisted.   So, probably Continental, including glass made for export to the UK.   In which case you will need measurements in cms to attract interest and comprehension.   Try Pamela's two websites for starters.

Hi
I am almost certain that this is Brockwitz as on very many occasions I have seen this with the "ear lobes" bowl that has the part frosted holly pattern on.
And its a perfect fit for that bowl!
Hope this helps!
Nige

recent quote from Mark....... "And as for metric i am hopeless taught in imperial at infants and junior then just as they changed i was in senior and had to start again. Just can not seem to get a good idea of size in metric"  ......
Where is the difficulty Mark......a lot of us slightly older folks did Imperial only throughout our schooling, but it's no big deal to make a little mental calculation ..........remember, one inch equals (for practical purposes) 25mm  -  so then simply multiply by the inches, and add on any parts of an inch  i.e.   half inch equals about 12mm etc. etc.  Feel sure you'd get the hang of it in no time.    And remember also that whilst the guys from the States may also like Imperial, there's a whole shed load of our fellow glass collectors on the Continent/eastern Europe, who use nothing but metric. :)

Cheers Nige and Paul for the info. Thanks for the help on metric Paul, had a terrible maths teacher at school. Still call 5p a shilling etc, and hope i don't sound a bigot but still class myself as British not European. Just thank God they have not got there hands on the good old British pint of beer lol. All the best and once again thanks Mark
