I'm sure I recall this kind of pattern on glass refered to as 'Pylon', but correct me if I'm wrong! :)
I've seen similar patterns on Davidson glass I've owned in the past, but I don't know where this partial set hails from...

If I remember correctly "Pylons" is what the Aussie's call a very similar pattern by Crown Crystal.
I think your is the Davidson version altho I can't seem to find it here http://www.cloudglass.com/History.htm
I have a note that it's pattern no.535. Hopefully others can confirm.

I had a patt 535 fruitbowl, and it was VERY similar, but not the same unfortunately. :(

Actually, I think my father has some of the Aussie ones... I bought this amber glass for him, as pressed glass is more his thing than mine.

These folks reckon Davidson - see catalogue ref on the page also: http://www.whitefriars.com/glass/whitefriars/391

I'm more inclined to believe the people thinking it's Czech... but it feels more 1960's than 1930's (to me, anyway).
The Davidson 535 is a different shape and has feet... Unless Davidson gave pattern numbers to a very broad variation on a theme. I really can't claim to know.
But thank you for the link. :)
-
It is a cloud glass bowl, yes. Well, vaguely! :)
But I took photos of a 535 plate and an amber plate for side by side comparison. The Davidson edges are much sharper, the decoration more pronounced... and it has feet.

Ooh, have just spotted glue traces of the amber glasses' original label... It's hard to photograph, though. so I outlined the trace in black and then redrew the bits I can make out. There are two lines of text under the 'ME' bit, but I can't make them out. :(

Edit:
Have also just taken a look at the metal handle & spoon on the small bowl in the group photograph - it is stamped 'Made In England'... that's if it belongs with the bowl! :D
-
I think the metalwork was made by James Clarke & Sons, Stoke-on-Trent. Made in England does suggest the glass is British unless it was added on afterwards by the importer.
Didn't Sowerby make glassware in this style? Adam D might be able to help.
-
David - The pattern is vaguely familiar to me but I can't remember why and I don't think I ever had anything to do with making it.
Sorry! Adam D.
-
Know what you mean Adam: it's one of those patterns that niggles away! Another thought: Walther & Sohne?
-
Ah, just found the large bowl on eBay with 'Fait en Belgique" impressed on the base. With a place to start looking I Googled VSL and Scailmont, and found a near-identical pattern on Pamela's website under Belgium > Unknown.
Still, at least the pieces have a definite nationality now! Does the label imprint ring any bells with anyone now it can be linked with a country?
I don't suppose a helpful moderator could tweak the title a touch to divert relevant attention this way? Much obliged.

Czechoslovakian, Carl Stoelzle und Sohne, Hermanshutte.

Oh, thanks for that, Marcus.
Any idea why the piece I found on eBay claims a Belgian origin? A copy or a bit of licensing?
-
Hi Nic,
It remains unclear, why so many designs, known to have been made by Czech companies, appeared with "Fait Belgique" or similar.
In the case of British copies, there were complex legal manoeuvres, which made such copying possible, but this is discussed rather more fully in the forth-coming book.
Regards.

Yes, I did a search of the site after my last post, and found a few threads bringing this issue up. Very confusing!

Just fully cross-referencing two threads (and quite unsubtly bumping the topic). The logo found on the bowl is also found on the following pitcher, but on a differently-shaped partial label. Once more, the 'Made In..." text on the label is illegible! ::)
