Title: Help identifying faceted paperweight, possibly whitefriars???
Post by: Glassheart on August 01, 2010, 10:26:25 PM
Hi All,
More help required! This paperweight I recently bought and I'm thinking that it most certainly looks like a Whitefriars piece, but this is just down to pics from the internet and comparisons to the shape and style.  It is faceted on clear glass with green millefiori inside.  It is unmarked and fairly chunky in size and weight and measures 2.75" tall by 3" across(edge to edge)

Any confirmations would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks

Monty

(Please help with my other paperweight identification enquiry!)

Hi there,

This is not a Whitefriars paperweight, I am afraid. The canes are not Whitefriars and neither is the base (whitefriars bases are not flat they have a groove around the base).

IMHO, this faceted weight is Murano. The canes are neat and the weight very tidy. Others (more knowlegeable) may tell you which maker is likely to have made it (although if I had to venture a guess, I would go with Galliano & Ferro - but this is a long way from my comfort zone).

It is a nice Murano faceted weight.

Definitely Murano, G&F is a fair guess as they are know to produce faceted weights in this style and have very neat setups.

Thank you very much Sophie and Alexander, such experts! excellent deduction!

Just out of interest this and the other weight will shortly be listed on a well known auction site!

Best Wishes
