Title: Identification Request... Amber globose random strapping vase...
Post by: lepton on August 03, 2010, 07:24:52 PM
Can anyone offer any suggestions about the origin of this vase. It has me stumped... It is gold in colour and looks like there is aventurine inside the glass. There is a little oxidisation in places to the outside of the vase but this could be impurities in the glass. There is a rough pontil scar to the base. It measures 13cm in height x 14cm in diameter.

WHat a nice vase.  I would guess that it is not a production piece but rather an experimental vase that has been sold without marking it.  If I found it here in Australia i might hazard a guess at Don Wreford but I do not know where you are from.

I'm in the UK Ross.

Probably wishfull thinking but the closest things I have seen to this vase are photos of Jacob E. Bang's early experimental pieces. Some of which appear to share a similar colour and texture and have randomly applied strapping. However, I have not seen anything in this shape. I'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything about Bang's experimental glass.

I would suspect this is a piece of British Studio glass, prob best researching studio glass to start off with.
