Title: ID needed on green vase
Post by: stephenpounder on August 08, 2010, 12:54:47 PM
Can anyone help me ID this vase I've just bought. It is 7 1/2" in height and quite heavy.

Thanks,

Stephen

Hi and welcome.
I'm afraid it's almost impossible to tell what this vase is really like from your picture. I can't make out if there are tiny bubbles in the glass, I can't make out if there's a strange lumpy shape to the base or if there's an angle on the rim or if the vase is round or if it's flattened.
We also need a clear image of the base - and it can often help to know where on earth (literally) you are.

Having said all that, it looks fairly contemporary Polish - there are a lot of vases like this out there!

I can see now that it's flattened a bit in shape at the rim, but I can't make out how the base is finished - is it polished flat? Are there any marks of any description there? Is there a rounded out polished "well" in the middle?

Sorry to seem so picky, but we really do need an accurate representation of what the vase actually looks like and of how it has been finished off. I'm sure somebody will be able to help identify it.

Several makers come into the picture: Sea Glasbruk, Maastricht, Johansfors to start with. I have quite a collection of similar shapes and similar colours, and not identified.

Yes, there is a polished "well" in the middle...

It looks like Johansfors to me. I wouldn't rule out Maastricht, though. I just don't know their range at all well. I'd love "quite a collection" of these, identified or not.
