Title: Please help identify
Post by: msandml on August 09, 2010, 05:54:10 PM
Hi!

I have these two glass pieces that I love, but have no idea who the artists are.  The round one with brown is not signed.  I've attached the signature for the clear, blue and pink piece.

Any help is appreciated!

Best,
Marcie

Hi Marcie,  Pics are a little small, I can't tell if these are paperweights, plates, or what.  Can we get a little larger picture?

Also, Can you read the signature?  It looks to me like it says Stephan for ~something?~ 1987

Let's try these...

Also the one with brown is about 6" tall and the colorful one is about 6.5" tall.  Would these be considered paperweights?

Thanks again,
Marcie

The larger pics were helpful.  The brown one is still small.   I would call them paperweights and you may get more answers if the admins can move this to the paperweights forum.  ...

I'm not a paperweight person, but I like a mystery.  I wonder if the signature is Stephen (Steven) Correia, a known paperweight maker of California (if what the internet told me is correct.)   Time period would be right.  Maybe look and see if you can find a site with some of his work.

Regards,
-Buck

ps. Oh, and I really like that blue/pink one - beautiful.

pps. Here links to Correia weights a bit similar to yours, seeing that I'd bet money it's the same artist.

Hi Marcie,

I have remoed your duplicated topic from the Paperweights forum and moved the original from Glass to Paperweights.

Please do not post the same thing in different forums as it gets confusing, especially if differing responses are made to the different posts. Just ask a Moderator to move the post.

Also, it is best if separate items are posted separately. Otherwise, this also can lead to confusion.

Hi, it is my understanding that Steven Correia is spelled with a  "v" and not "ph".

This doesn't look like his signature or work and I doubt it is linked to Correia.

This kind of "disc" design is not uncommon, and variations on the theme have been done by many artists,
from Sweden and Europe through America.

I wish you luck in deciphering the signature tho  :)

Steven does indeed have a v and a website; you could email http://www.correiaartglass.com/

The first word of the signature looks to me like 'Steph' and a slight squiggle - could be short for Stephen, Stephan, or Stephanie;

The second word could be 'von' or 'jon';

The last word looks as if it could start 'Clu' - but it could even be 'Curtis' given the style of the hand!

Sadly, I have not heard of a Steph von Curtis or similar - but maybe someone else has?

Well, I thought the middle looked like V which would tie into Steve V. Correia.; and the work in the links I gave seemed to be similar which is why I went that way.

If it's J as in Jon, then maybe "Stephen Jon Clements", that kinda fits.  I know there are some paperweights/glass sculptures out there identified with that name but I can't find many examples online.   I believe that artist is/was? out of Tucson AZ, USA.

Added:  Whoops Cubby01, I did not see we were on the same wave-length, as I thought the middle name looked like VON too, so I was just googling Stephan VON and also found the same person as you did.......you were the first to spot that....credit due to you

Thank you so much  :hiclp:-- I think it is Stephen Jon Clements -- I'm going to call the studio tomorrow to confirm.

Sometimes this feels like detective work -- or a puzzle -- so thanks again!!

Any help on the round brown paperweight anyone?

Best,
Marcie

The brown paperweight pic needs to be much larger. You have 125kb; it's only 1.95!!  :o

Post a larger picture in a new thread, as no one has commented on it in this thread.
