I've seen a lot of sommerso vases in this jug style before, but never signed, and was just wondering what people think of the signature [linkage (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110570179432)].
-
I would say fake...i would expect Seguso Vetri d'Arte but the with Flavio Poli...dremmel...plus it doesn't look like a piece of his work...
-
It doesn't look obviously fake. It's well executed and correctly spelt. The question is "Where did the 'fact' that these flattened pieces were designed by him come from?" If it is a fact, it might be a genuine signature.

I have to agree with Pain on this one.

Thanks everyone, for the opinions so far. I've found another vase on ebay [here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SIGNED-SEGUSO-VETRI-DARTE-2-COLOR-VASE-FLAVIO-POLI-/360244942171?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0)] also signed Seguso Vetri d'arte, Flavio Poli. Different style of vase, and different style of signature though.

Hi Wayne,
I would be skeptical of that one also, but that is only my opinion. There are many fakes out there, especially when it comes to Flavio Poli.

I have a small pitcher in a similar design, which has what looks like a faded Toso label? Could be wrong as you can only really read Murano, and not sure just how many workshops did these.

That beautiful sommerso has been ruined with a fake signature... :hb2:

Lol I know what you mean Kane, such a shame!
Sandy, thanks for posting your pics, I've seen quite a few in that style too. I'm not sure, but I think that label might have been one of the generic red ones, I had a look through the Murano labels section on here though and couldn't spot it.
I was hoping if these signatures could be verified, then it might confirm if these designs were Seguso Vetri d'Arte. It's never that simple though is it? I guess we will have to wait for Marc Heiremans book to come out. Another three years apparently, I can't wait!!!

Come to think of it, I have never seen a SVdA piece actually signed (real signature) by Poli. This has always lead me to believe that SVdA never signed his designs. Has anyone else?

I have only seen a handful of signed pieces and all original. All signed Seguso Vetri d'Arte and never with Flavio Poli. Design & Arts had a gorgeous and huge Poli dolphin listed a few months back with a label and signed SVdA. Went out of my price range though.
I have also seen a plum and silver foil bowl/vase that was signed SVdA but didn't buy it due the silver foil. I only go for the gold ones. They are rare! And tip for telling a true one, they don't look as professional as these 2 signatures. They look rushed and loose.

Thanks for the useful tip Kane, I will be wary of signatures that look "too good".
