The item is a three footed bowl, cut glass, no seams, the cuts are uneven. I acquired this piece at the salvation army in Orlando, Florida. The item is 4" in height and 10" in diameter. I do not see any markings of any kind. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Frank

You picture is far too tiny and we also need a profile shot.
We need a high resolution picture resized by compressing, not cropping so that the longest dimension is about 700 pixels. See here for some help http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.msg55557.html#msg55557

I acquired this piece at a salvation army store in Orlando, Florida, USA a couple of days ago. I have not been able to locate any markings. There are no seams in the glass. Also, where the cuts come together at the bottom of the piece, they are not even. So, I do not think this was machine made. Any info is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Frank

Hello Frank,
I'd say your piece is Polish hand-cut crystal -- in a very traditional design.
I've got a similar bowl... same feet, same pin-wheel engraving and design around the rim. My bowl has got a "Violetta" label. (By the way, I don't think we can really pin-point an exact date. My bowl was bought in the early 2000s, but I've also got much older pieces with the same pattern.)

P.S. Forgive the yellowy tinged photos... it's evening here and there is a storm outside... bad lighting... but wonderful photographer ;D

Thank you for the information. I do see similar traits. It is a beautiful piece of crystal. Thank you :ha:

I've just realized (better late than never) that the pinwheel design was/is also used by Bohemia Crystal.
They look very similar, if not identical, at first glance. I think there might be a difference in the style of side decoration used. There may also be a difference in the star at the center of the pinwheel... I've noticed that in all my pieces, regardless if a large vase or tiny little shot glass, Violetta and Irena always use 8-point stars. Bohemia designs, on the other hand, can have up to 12 point stars.
I wonder if we can really identify a maker of traditional cut-crystal patterns without a label?
