Title: Millefiori paperweight on deep red ground - help please with make?
Post by: kmax70 on August 20, 2010, 02:41:54 PM
I have just been given this small millefiori paperweight for my collection and would like some help with the id.   It measures approx. 2 in (5 cm) in diameter by 1.5 in (4 cm) tall.   Any help would be much appreciated.

I have seen a few of these, and I think they are Murano from the mid 20th C.

Thanks, Alan.   That figures - I am fairly sure we gave this to our younger daughter once, and now she has given it back for my collection.   KathleenM.

I agree with Alan. I have seen a few similar with a Murano label, but none that had a company label.

Many thanks - I can now mentally label it.  KathleenM.

I have a weight very like this which has 'ALT' acid etched on the base.  Apparently Alt was a Murano glasshouse which specialised in millefiori paperweights.  It closed down about a decade ago and the glasshouse 3Fiori was set up by the cane makers, but 3Fiori has now closed as well.

Hope this helps    :)
