Dear friends of glass !

victorian or european rather high wine glass - height 18 cm

rather nice engraved - bohemian or english ?
age : 1880/85

oh many thx - i alway make about 20 images per item - 16 are rubbish :-)

I absolutely love this!  :mrgreen:   And I second the compliments on your photographic skills  :clap: 

I also collect etched and engraved glasses, and - without being able to say exactly why - this doesn't look English to me  :-\  I would vote for Bohemian.  Congratulations!  It's exquisite!   :D

i agree with you - the more i look at the glass i see more bohemian and not english details ! and it looks like a beer glass !!

Found this one on the net (maybe) your interested (??) Said you were looking, and wanted more jugs/decanters  Here  (http://www.rubylane.com/item/458334-A-705/Stunning-Mont-Joye-Art-Nouveau).

Are they referred to as Decanters too?  As I had posted one on the Board, but I called it a Decanter, as I did not know what it was called.

many thx for your interesting link - i would say it is a claret jug - but there are two problems with this piece - first , it is pewter ( i prefer silver or good plate ) :-) and it is a crazy price for this item !
You get something like this in france for 500 BP - even less :-)

I think that your beautiful glass could indeed be English. I have a Glass Circle publication entitled "From Palace to Parlour" a celebration of 19th century British glass, on pages 54 and 55 there are claret jugs shown with wheel engraved decoration with features similar to your glass. The particular element that caught my eye was the basket of fruit shown in your pictures which is very similar to the ones shown in the book. Also the overall style of the design is similar, the clarat jugs are described Stourbridge circa 1870-1880.
