Title: Small blue iridescent jug
Post by: yesvil on August 23, 2010, 01:18:54 PM
What to make of this?

It looks like it's been buried in the ground for some time - is this an applied finish? The outside is matt with the inside smooth to the touch.

It stands 90mm tall

This is a 'scavo' piece, i.e. it's been treated to give a similar finish to excavated old glass. This one looks very similar to an example I owned a while ago which had a Murano sticker to base. Past Times and other stores used to sell these as reproduction Roman glass in the 90s, though I'm sure they're still being made.

Thanks Mosquito, I did suspect this was the case, it's nice to now know what this process is called however - gives me something to google.
