Hi all, I've got this crystal ashtray and was hoping someone could id the company by the signature on the base. Appears there was a paper label but only a small patch of old label glue and rubbed paper remained when I got it. There is very little wear so I have no indication as to how old it is.
TIA, -Buck

Val st Lambert

This is only a guess based on my hubbys vast glass ashtray collection - I think he is now upto 200 or so. Incidentally if anyone knows of an easy cataloging system could you please let me know.

Margi are some Val St Lambert pieces signed just 'Val'..? I've seen a few signed in the full script before....?
-
I thought the mark looked more like VSL than VAL?
-
Anne, Sorry I got confused...you thought what looked like VSL? My ashtray above or the typical Val St. Lambert mark?
Val St. Lambert was my initial thought on this piece when I saw the mark but I've never seen a hand scribed Val St. Lambert signature, and I've never seen a Val St. Lambert mart that was VAL. VSL, yes, but not VAL.
-
I read the mark you posted above as VSL not VAL... does that clarify it cubby?
-
Thanks Anne, I'm having a hard time getting VSL out of it but if it is VSL then it might make more sense. I did find some examples online of hand scribed Val St Lambert and a couple which looked like it could be a hand scribed VSL as well.

I have quite a few hock glasses marked VSL i cant say that looks the same .

Checking in Glass fact file a-z (Ivo Haanstra) Ivo says that both Val St Lambert and VSL are used as marks, amongst others. Ivo gives an example of the VSL mark, but as JP said about his, it's not like the mark on this piece.
-
ok, so not a Val St. Lambert, who are other candidates that made crystal like this and signed them? It seems to be a nice heavy piece of crystal even though it's still an ashtray. I try to trace the flow of the signature and I not sure it's Val at all , maybe Vol, Vou, Voi, Veu, ...
-
If not VSL, it looks like Vae to me.
-
Thanks Cathy, Tried that initially but I'll do some more searches with 'Vae'
